What is Applied Energistics 2?
Applied Energistics 2 revolutionizes Minecraft storage and automation by creating a unified digital storage network. Instead of managing countless chests, you access all items through terminals connected to storage drives. The mod transforms chaotic inventory management into an organized, searchable system where you can instantly find and craft items across your entire base. Applied Energistics 2 also adds blocks for fast automated crafting systems.
Is Applied Energistics 2 a storage mod?
Yes, Applied Energistics 2 is primarily a storage mod, but it's much more than traditional storage. AE2 creates digital storage networks that store thousands of items in compact drives, with advanced features like autocrafting, item processing, and network automation. It eliminates the need for massive chest rooms and hours of manual crafting by digitizing your entire inventory into searchable terminals.
What does AE2 stand for?
AE2 stands for Applied Energistics 2, which is the current major version of the Applied Energistics mod. The "2" indicates this is the second major iteration of the mod, featuring completely rewritten mechanics, improved performance, and expanded functionality compared to the original Applied Energistics. The original Applied Energistics mod is only available for versions below Minecraft 1.6.4, whilst Applied Energistics 2 is available for 1.7.10 through to modern versions. Most players simply call it AE2 for convenience.
Can you upgrade storage cells in AE2?
You cannot directly upgrade existing storage cells in AE2, but you can craft higher-capacity storage cells to expand your storage. The mod offers four tiers - 1k, 4k, 16k, and 64k storage cells - each with progressively larger capacities. You craft these new cells using storage components and housing, then transfer your items to the new higher-capacity cells. Once a storage cell is empty you can hold it in your hand. Then hold Shift and right click it to separate into its components for use in crafting new higher capacity cells.
Does AE2 need power?
Yes, AE2 requires power to function, using its own energy system to run the ME network. Your storage system, terminals, and all network components need continuous power to operate. AE2 comes with vibration chambers and crystal resonance generators to generate power without other mods. You can also pipe other mod’s energy into Energy Acceptors or a Controller to convert it into ‘AE’, AE2’s energy system.
How big is AE2 storage?
AE2 storage capacity is highly scalable and can handle vast quantities of items through its tiered storage cell system. Higher-tier storage cells offer significantly larger capacities, and you can connect multiple storage drives to expand your network. Using tools such as the Cell Workbench, advanced players can create storage systems capable of holding millions of items across multiple drives, all accessible through terminal interfaces. The possibilities are endless!
