Minecraft’s upcoming Wilderness Bound update is right around the corner, bringing a fresh wave of exploration, cozy aesthetic blocks, and overhauled mechanics to your favorite survival worlds. The Dappled Forest

The Dappled Forest is the newly added forest biome that features a new wood type, Poplar trees, with occasional Spruce trees.

The grass in this biome appears as a mix of orange and brown, alternated with coarse dirt. Meanwhile, the foliage comes in a range of colors, including red, orange, and yellow.

The surface is covered by dark orange leaf litter, red shrubs, and brown mushrooms. The color of the biome's grass also affects Sugar Cane, which adopts the orange color.

All Poplar trees can generate with Shelf Mushrooms attached to the trunk. Shelf Mushrooms are a new type of mushroom that grows sideways when attached to a tree and can be stepped on or jumped on, having a slight bounciness.

The Poplar Log has a brown exterior with a grayish, light-brown interior, alongside the Poplar Planks entire block set.

Abandoned Camp

Abandoned Camps are structures added in the Wilderness Bound update.
They consist of small campsites and wool tents containing loot and equipment, great for early or mid-game exploration.

Scattered around the structure are barrels, chests, and hidden treasures.
Breaking the barrel might reveal a Copper Chest, yielding more valuable loot such as potions, iron gear, and other valuables.

The camps often contain Explorer Maps for various structures in the game, like other Abandoned Camps, Trial Chambers, Ancient Cities, and Desert Temples.

Despite their simple appearance, these camps contain 3 new blocks added in the update.
The tents are made of Wool Stairs, which have now been added to the game with the Wool Slab, and both come in every color variation.

Inside the tents, there is also a Straw Bed.

Straw Beds are crafted using 3 Hay Bales. You can sleep on them to pass the night without changing your spawn point. Now you can safely sleep during your explorations without risking losing your house's location!

Abandoned Camps can generate almost anywhere, as they can spawn in 18 biomes. This is the list of biomes they can be found in:

Each biome has a variation of the tent and of the campfire located in front of it, so there are a massive number of possible configurations you can find in your world.

The third new block that generates in Abandoned Camps is the Cushion.

Other New Blocks

• Cushion
  The Cushion is a new addition that can be sat on.
  Despite the appearance, the Cushion is actually an entity. The item is stackable up to 16, crafted from 3 Wool Slabs or found in Abandoned Camps, and comes in all color variations.
• Concrete Stairs and Slabs
  Like Wool, Concrete has also received every variation of stairs and slabs requested by builders for a long time! They can be crafted or obtained using a Stonecutter.

Explorer Maps

Explorer Maps, which previously existed in the game, has received a great update!

They now display the direction you are facing when holding them, compared to the previous versions, where you would have no idea if you were going in the right direction. This is an amazing change and makes this previously poorly useful item a very interesting way to find structures easily!

They have also received a new texture based on the structure they point to, so they are easily recognizable without having to check the name for each of them.

Quality of Life Mechanics

Beyond the eye-catching biomes and fresh wood sets, Wilderness Bound packs a variety of under-the-hood quality-of-life tweaks designed to make daily survival feel much smoother. Players can look forward to refined inventory handling, cleaner UI indicators when navigating complex menus, and improved pathfinding behavior for passive mobs in dense foliage. These subtle refinements reduce everyday gameplay friction, making exploration and base-building in the deep woods far more enjoyable.

Release Date

Finally, we have reached the end of our dive into this new game drop, and you might be wondering when this amazing update will be released.

Wilderness Bound is set to release in September 2026.
Mojang has not released any more details than this, but we can expect it to be towards the end of September, around the start of fall.

Mod & Addon Compatibility

With every new Minecraft game drop comes the age-old question: What happens to my mods? Fortunately, smaller updates like Wilderness Bound make the transition much smoother for creators.
