Tips for New Creators on CurseForge

Publishing your first project is exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming. Whether you’re making a small quality-of-life mod or a game-changing modpack, there is always something you can learn as a creator!

Here are some helpful tips to get you started and level up your skills as an author on CurseForge.

1. Keep Your Project Updated

Games change frequently, and so should your project. Fix bugs, update compatibility, and add improvements over time. Even small updates show your community that your project is active and supported!

2. Write a Clear Project Description

A good description helps players understand what your project is about. A few important things to include are:

  • Key features
  • Technical instructions
  • Images or videos of your project
  • Make sure you select a license that matches your project properly – for more information, check out this page

3. Listen to Player Feedback

Your players are one of your best resources, and listening to their feedback is one of the most important things you can do as a mod author.

Bug reports and suggestions can help you improve your mod and discover issues you may not have noticed. Make sure you test your mods before publishing to ensure less issues for players, and find as many bugs as you can!

4. Read Guides and Learning Resources

There are many amazing resources and guides that can help you learn a new topic or deepen your knowledge in specific areas. You can find some of the articles we’ve created here.

Along with this, we’ve also worked with several authors to create interactive Author Workshops, which you can find on the CurseForge Academy channel.

5. Join Mod Author Communities

Connecting with other creators can be incredibly valuable. Communities allow you to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from experienced mod authors.

Here are some great Discord communities you can join for modding different games:

Creating mods is about more than just building features - it’s about contributing to a community of players and creators who love the game as much as you do!

If you’re just getting started, remember: every popular mod author was in your shoes! Keep improving, and most importantly, have fun!
