10 Best Minecraft Bedrock Animal Addons by Community Downloads

Minecraft is full of a diverse array of wildlife, from the common cow to the rare, underground axolotl. There are even a handful of fictional creatures with bizarre shapes and powers, like shulkers and phantoms. But even all of that pales in comparison to the number of animals that exist in the real world.

And while Minecraft may never truly come close to such a number – there are over 1.5 million different kinds of animals on earth, after all – we can certainly stand to expand Minecraft’s selection a little more, and even introduce some fantasy creatures along the way.

With that said, we believe that the animal addons for Minecraft Bedrock below will be a good place for you to start if you really want to fill your game with a more vibrant fauna than what vanilla Bedrock can currently offer.

1. Better on Bedrock

Better on Bedrock Addon

An overall style-enhancing addon, “Better on Bedrock” introduces a whole buffet of new content to Minecraft. Fight boss level enemies, craft unique gear, loot dungeons, towers, and a variety of new biomes for magical items. And yes, that includes more mobs.

Beside the monsters, elementals, and magic-using NPCs, scattered throughout the world are also animals like deer, owls, and our favorite – a weird lava crab called the Basalt Crober. Some are mostly aesthetic in nature, while others provide valuable resources unique to the addon.

2. Core Craft

Core Craft Addon

While “Better on Bedrock” focuses more on making every world an adventure, the “Core Craft” addon is more aimed at expanding the existing game mechanics. There are a lot more crops to farm, an expanded cooking system, even a quest log and market systems. And when it comes to mobs, it has one of the more interesting assortment of animals in its roster.

The animals in “Core Craft” strike the perfect balance of exotic and realistic. All of the wildlife mobs are real animals but also ones from all around the world. This makes it just as likely to encounter a penguin as you are a cassowary, an orangutan, or a crocodile.

The in-game wiki book even includes a detailed breakdown of all the new animals, what they do, and where to find them. Without it, we wouldn’t have even dared to try and see if bears are breedable (they are!).

3. Expansive Biomes

Expansive Biomes Addon

The “Expansive Biomes” addon promotes itself as a biome addon. And while it does a great job of expanding the different biomes that can appear, it takes it just a little further by including a handful of new animal mobs to populate those biomes. Raccoons and elk will roam the forests, scorpions can sting you in the desert, and you might even encounter a chimpanzee while exploring the jungle.

Each animal mob has unique behavior too, really reinforcing the feeling that you’re inside a living and breathing Minecraft world. Supporting that sense of life are the other non-animal mobs that will now populate the lands, like the pillager trapper, who sells pelts and leathers, or the packs of hostile goblins.

4. Bedrock Reimagined

Bedrock Reimagined Addon

To be honest, it might be easier to list all of the things that the “Bedrock Reimagined” addon doesn’t do – but we’ll try anyway.

There are countless new blocks and items, a bunch of new biomes and structures, even new mechanics like a quest system, automation, and special bosses. All of that makes it easy to overlook the eagles, elk, penguins, and squirrels that the addon also introduces.

There’s a bunch of new mobs in this addon, ranging from fantasy creatures like phoenixes and crystal slimes, to real-world animals like sharks and bears. Beyond just providing a new assortment of animal mobs to the world, the addon also makes the world a part of them. So, don’t be surprised if you discover nests and other structures that are the direct result of the animals, like beaver dams housing a family of beavers!

5. Mythological Craft

Mythological Craft Addon

If you’re looking for animals of a more fantastical origin, then the “Mythological Craft” addon has exactly what you need. This historical adventure-style addon implements various environments, items, and mobs based on old mythology. Turn to stone at the sight of Medusa, or encounter the three-headed hound Cerberus in hell. You can even scour labyrinths for the Minotaur!

It’s not just boss monsters either, as fantasy creatures can now be found all over your world, like griffons, goblins, and even massive dragons nesting inside volcanic grottos. Aside from spirits and monsters of lore, you’ll also encounter various “regular” animals known throughout recorded human history, like crocodiles, ravens, and giant bears.

6. World Animals

World Animals Addon

When it comes to having a wide variety of real-world animals, the “World Animals” addon simply cannot be beat. With more mobs than we can count, nearly every single biome will be populated by new, interesting, and geographically accurate animals.

Elephants (both African and Asian) graze across the savannah; jellyfish, lanternfish, and even whales swim through the depths of the ocean; bonobos, butterflies, and toucans fill the jungle. Everywhere you go, there are new animals to discover. It’s an outright impressive roster of mobs that will make any Minecraft world feel full of life.

7. MC ARK PRIMITIVE

MC ARK PRIMITIVE Addon

The dinosaurs were some of the most impressive and awe-inspiring animals to ever exist. Gigantic reptiles roamed tropical lands, reigning supreme during the era of mega fauna. Inspired by the popular survival game ARK: Combat Evolved, the “MC ARK PRIMITIVE” addon brings similar dinosaur-based content, including a leveling system, skills, traps, and even native tribes.

Discover and tame a variety of prehistoric animals, from the harmless dodo to raptors and even ichthyosauruses. Each dinosaur has its own levelling system, and each species has its special mechanics and abilities, so no two dino teams will be the same. Breed them together to create the dinosaur with the best stats, or even develop a stat-boosting mutation.

8. Dinosaur Add-On

Dinosaur Add-On Addon

Want more dinosaurs and less RPG? Then consider the aptly named “Dinosaur Add-On.” You won’t encounter any skill trees or leveling systems here, just a handful of new dinosaur animal mobs spawning all over your Minecraft world. And we do mean all over as spawn rates are pretty high.

There are sixteen dinosaur types to be seen in total, including popular species like the iganadon, T-rex, and stegosaurus. All of them are tamable, and most of them are even ridable, including flying dinos like the pteranodon. It’s a diverse and straightforward addon perfect for anyone who just wants to enjoy their own private Jurassic Park.

9. Nico’s Mobs

Nico’s Mobs Addon

Another mob-only addon, “Nico’s Mobs” strikes an excellent balance between the trifecta of wildlife, fantasy, and diversity. It has animals like squirrels, sparrows, clams, fantasy creatures like wraiths, elementals, golems, and exotic fictional creatures like skulk walkers and even something called a “clurve”.

Some spawn at night, some in caves, some in forests – in short, there’s a new mob for almost anywhere you go. It’s also worth noting that this addon has animals we’ve not seen any other creator ever to consider, like the giant moa, or the opossum. This all combines to create a tremendously engaging assortment of mobs that stays consistently interesting as you explore your way around the game.

10. The Lost Wild

The Lost Wild Addon

This might be one of the most understated addons for Minecraft Bedrock we’ve ever encountered. “The Lost Wild” is a prehistoric dinosaur expansion that describes itself as “a relatively small addon.” In reality, this animal addon introduces over 400 new mobs from the age of mega fauna. There’s nearly every dinosaur you can think of, alongside long-since-extinct animals like the macrauchenia, giant insects, and more.

Not just that, but the different biomes have been tweaked to better represent that time period. Forest trees are now massive in scale, with canopies often covering the area in dense shade. New foliage and numerous items have been added to give more detail, too. It’s a really impressive addon that more people need to try for themselves.

How to Install Minecraft Addons

You can add Bedrock addons automatically from the official Minecraft Marketplace or download and install them manually from CurseForge’s Bedrock addons browser.

If you pick the second option, make sure to open the linked project page of each of the addons above and download its associated “.mcaddon” file. Running the downloaded file should then launch Minecraft and begin the import.

After the import finishes, don’t forget to edit the world and check both "Behavior Packs" → "Available" and "Resource Packs" → "Available". If all went well, activating the packs included with the addon should add its features to that world. If the project lists an experiment under "Requirements", you should enable it as well before loading the world.

Common Issues and Quick Fixes

I installed and activated the addon, but it’s still not appearing

Sometimes, you may need to install two files – one for the resource pack and one for the behavior pack. We therefore recommend checking if you have both installed and active. If not, make sure to visit the addon’s official download page for the missing file and download it.

I can’t find a particular animal

Not every animal spawns everywhere. Some distribute wildlife according to geography, while others include mobs that spawn at night, in caves, or in forests. If you’re looking for a particular animal, we recommend checking which addon it belongs to and exploring the environments associated with that addon.

Some addons even have a wiki you can reference for more detailed information. Those are usually found in the addon’s webpage description.

I can’t tame or ride an animal, even though the addon says I can

Oftentimes, addons will add in a new item specifically for taming or riding their custom mobs. This can be something like a “dinosaur saddle” or a “golden bone” item. If an animal isn't responding to the normal method of taming or mounting, make sure to check the addon’s description page for more information.
