What is the Continuity mod used for?
Continuity is a cosmetic mod that brings Connected Textures, Emissive Textures, and custom block layers to Minecraft without the need for Optifine. It is primarily used to make glass look seamless (removing the borders between adjacent blocks) and to allow resource packs to have glowing elements or specialized transitions.
Is there a mod like Continuity focused on Forge?
Yes. While Continuity was originally a Fabric exclusive, there are several alternatives:
- Fusion: A modern, cross-platform alternative that supports connected textures and emissive ores.
- Athena: A library mod often used by Chipped and other decoration mods to provide connected textures.
- Connectedness: A direct Forge port of the original Continuity mod.
Note: Some versions of Continuity either support Forge or NeoForge.
Is the Continuity mod client-side?
Yes. Continuity only changes how your game renders textures on your own screen. Because it does not add new blocks or items to the game world, it does not need to be installed on a server for it to work. You can use it on any server or realm as long as it is in your own mods folder.
How to add the Continuity mod in Minecraft?
You can install the Continuity mod via the CurseForge app or download it here. Continuity comes with two built-in resource packs: "Default Connected Textures" and "Glass Pane Culling Fix." To enable any of them, go to "Options" → "Resource Packs" and mark them as selected.
How does Minecraft Continuity compare to Fusion?
Fusion is a newer, cross-platform alternative. While Continuity focuses on supporting the classic Optifine format, Fusion uses its own modern format. Fusion is often easier to set up on Forge, but Continuity has much broader support for existing community resource packs.
How does Minecraft Continuity compare to Athena?
Athena is primarily a library mod for other mods (like Chipped or Connected Glass) to use. Unlike Continuity, it does not typically come with its own "Vanilla-fix" resource pack as it’s more meant to provide the tools for other mod creators rather than a universal Optifine replacement.
How does Minecraft Continuity compare to Indium?
Indium is a required bridge that allows Continuity to "talk" to the Sodium rendering engine. If you use Sodium and Continuity together, you need to also have Indium, otherwise your game may crash or fail to show connected textures.
Note: This is less critical in Sodium versions 0.6+.
How does Minecraft Continuity compare to Sodium?
Sodium is a performance mod that makes your game run faster and Continuity is a visual mod that makes your game look better. While they serve completely different purposes, they are almost always used in tandem to get the best of both worlds.
