Hytale Chapter I Released: Out of the Breach Feature Breakdown & Guide

The wait is officially over! Hypixel Studios has dropped the first major content expansion for Hytale Early Access: Chapter I: Out of the Breach.

Even if you’re exploring an existing save in Exploration Mode or starting fresh, there’s something strange stirring at the Forgotten Temple. Unstable Void portals, handcrafted boss dungeons, and a completely overhauled magic system bring a whole new way to explore, survive, and fight across Orbis.

Here is your complete breakdown of everything packed into Hytale’s biggest update yet.

It Starts at the Forgotten Temple...

Your journey into Chapter I begins at the Forgotten Temple. Whether you are playing on an existing Exploration Mode save or starting fresh, players will sense something stirring at ancient ruins across Orbis.

Heading to the temple leads you to the new Goblin Lab, which serves as your gateway into Chapter I content. To keep you on track, a dedicated Chapter screen clearly displays your active objectives - so you always know what challenge to chase next and what rewards you will unlock upon completing it.

The Goblin Breach

Once the chapter opens, temporary Void portals will tear into the world with force. Stepping through a breach transports you to an unstable fragment of Orbis that the goblin faction has claimed - with the Void slowly creeping in around the edges.

  • Race Against the Clock: Every breach pocket is dynamically generated, and the expanding Void will eventually force you out.
  • Goblin Breach Console: Defeating threats inside the breach allows you to upgrade the Goblin Breach Console inside the Goblin Lab, granting extra time on future breach runs and unlocking higher-tier rewards.

New Biome: The Guttering Hollows

Stepping through a Void breach brings you directly into The Guttering Hollows - a hazardous, subterranean sub-biome that serves as the centerpiece for Chapter I's open-world gameplay. Designed as an expanding foundation that Hypixel Studios will continue building upon over time, the hollows combine unique environmental survival mechanics, interactive map systems, and complex NPC behaviors.

Tracking, Trapping, and Map Navigation

Exploration in the hollows requires active preparation rather than mindless roaming:

  • Dedicated World Map Icons: Breach hunts on the far side of a portal now generate their own custom markers on your world map, allowing you to track active objectives at a glance.
  • Voidheart Expeditions: Commencing high-tier hunts within the biome requires a Voidheart, a rare resource harvested from deep breach encounters that unlocks access to specialized hunting zones.
  • Predator Tracking & Trapping: The fauna inhabiting the hollows can be tracked across terrain using environmental clues. Players can deploy traps to capture rare creatures for unique drops rather than engaging in direct combat.

Environmental Threats & Dynamic Ambushes

The environment itself presents constant danger as you navigate its dark corridors:

  • Void Assassins: Stealth-focused enemies that stalk players through the shadows, striking when your health or stamina drops low.
  • Ambush Chests: Scattered throughout the biome are high-tier treasure chests that trigger wave-based enemy spawns when opened, forcing you to defend your position against swarms before claiming your loot.
  • Spatial & Tracking Puzzles: Unlocking hidden pathways and sealed chambers within the hollows requires solving environmental puzzles that test your navigation and gadget usage.

The Revamped Goblin Faction & Adaptive AI

The hollows serve as the primary home for the completely overhauled goblin faction, featuring over 20 new and reimagined variants spanning different sizes, roles, and combat styles.

  • Ecological Behavioral AI: Goblins aren't just mindless aggressive mobs. They react dynamically to their surroundings and are acutely aware of the Void's corruption.
  • Tactical Morale System: Scrappy goblins exhibit realistic self-preservation. If a Void creature approaches, individual goblins will panic and flee unless they have enough allies nearby to form a defensive group and fight back.

Scrappy Goblin Gadgets

Goblins love contraptions, and Chapter I introduces an entire suite of player-craftable tools and gear to reshape traversal and survival:

Tool / Gadget Primary Function & Tactical Advantage
Scrap Drill Chews through a 2x2 patch of blocks simultaneously for high-speed excavation and breach navigation.
Scrap Glider Allows you to dive, climb, and maintain momentum through the air (mind your stamina meter on landings!).
Rocket Boots Grants a swift double-jump to scale high cliffs, clear abysses, and dodge incoming boss attacks.
Hookshot & Anchors Latches onto surfaces and anchor points to zip across chasms and vertical terrain with ease.
Spyglass Zooms in to scout distant terrain, breach hazards, and enemy camps before engaging.
Bangstick A thrown explosive stick that delivers heavy area-of-effect damage to clustered goblin mobs.
Goblin Repair Kit Restores gear durability in the field without reducing the item's maximum durability limit.

Runestones and Abilities

Chapter I introduces a customizable magic and combat system centered on Runestones, which are slotted into a Runebinder's Lattice (found inside the Forgotten Temple).

Active Ability Runestones (7 Launch Runes)

Avatars can equip up to two active ability runes at a time. These abilities cost mana, which regenerates naturally over time and receives a regeneration boost when you land your weapon's signature ability on an enemy:

  • Fireball: Launches an explosive fire projectile.
  • Ground Slam: Delivers a heavy localized shockwave to clear space.
  • Wind Strike: Executes a rapid wind-infused strike.
  • Enrage: Temporarily boosts offensive output.
  • Imbue Poison: Coats strikes in damage-over-time poison.
  • Chain Hook: Pulls target enemies into melee range.
  • Charged Shot: Winds up a powerful long-range projectile.

Modifier Runestones (8 Launch Modifiers)

Attach modifier runes directly to your active abilities inside the lattice to fundamentally change their behavior. Modifiers allow you to split a single projectile into multiple shots, cause attacks to bounce between adjacent targets, add withering or bleeding status effects, or trade raw damage for reduced mana costs and faster cooldowns.

Enter The Deepworks (Handcrafted Dungeon & Bosses)

Spoilers Ahead: The following section covers the layout, encounters, and endgame bosses of Hytale's first handcrafted dungeon.

All Chapter I progression culminates in The Deepworks - a multi-room, handcrafted dungeon built deep beneath the surface. You must navigate winding junk-filled corridors, dodge environmental fire traps and falling debris, solve room puzzles, and activate checkpoints as you clear out goblin hordes.

1
Dungeon Entry & Traps Navigate winding junk corridors, environmental hazards, and puzzle rooms.
2
Mid-Dungeon Boss: Elite Goblin Feastmaster Defeat this nimble mini-boss to unlock the main chamber checkpoint.
!
Optional Hard-Mode Switch Press the ominous red button outside the chamber to activate extreme difficulty.
3
Final Boss: The Gobliterator Confront Hytale's first multi-phase boss fight at the end of the dungeon.

The Feastmaster Blocks Your Path!

As you carve your path through the heaps of scrap, junk, and fiery obstacles inside The Deepworks, you will come face-to-face with your first major checkpoint boss: The Elite Goblin Feastmaster.

Don't let his bulky, rotund appearance fool you - the Feastmaster is remarkably agile on his feet. He commands the trash heaps with surprising speed, executing rapid lunges, sweeping attacks, and relentless charges that will punish players who rely solely on slow, heavy melee swings.

Conquering the Feastmaster requires active use of your new mobility gadgets - like using Rocket Boots or the Hookshot to reposition quickly - while managing stamina and taking advantage of his recovery windows between charges. Defeating him unlocks the checkpoint leading directly to the dungeon's main boss chamber.

Face The Gobliterator

At the absolute heart of The Deepworks awaits Hytale’s crowning challenge: The Gobliterator - the game’s very first major, multi-phase boss fight.

The Gobliterator is a massive feat of goblin mechanical engineering, powered by scrap tech and Void energy. This battle tests every single mechanic introduced in Chapter I:

  • Phase Progression: The encounter evolves dynamically across multiple distinct phases. As you strip away its armor and health bars, the Gobliterator changes attack patterns, introduces new arena hazards, and speeds up its offensive rotations.
  • Gadget & Ability Synergies: Success demands combining high-speed evasion (via Scrap Glider or Rocket Boots) with strategically slotted Runestone abilities to strike at vulnerable components while dodging sweeping lasers, falling debris, and explosive projectiles.

The Secret Hard Mode Challenge

For players who find the standard Deepworks boss fight too forgiving, Hypixel Studios has hidden a dedicated Hard Mode modifier inside the dungeon.

Located directly to the left of the boss chamber entrance is an ominous-looking red button. Interacting with this button before stepping through the fog gate activates the dungeon's high-difficulty encounter mode:

  • Escalated Combat Mechanics: Both the Elite Goblin Feastmaster and The Gobliterator gain significantly expanded health pools, higher damage output, and faster attack recovery windows.
  • Intensified Arena Hazards: Boss phase transitions trigger additional environmental threats, including accelerated Void corruption timers and additional falling debris patterns.
  • Bragging Rights & High-Tier Loot: Completing the encounter on Hard Mode guarantees top-tier drop rates for Chapter I weapons, specialized Runestone shards, and exclusive dungeon cosmetic unlocks.
Developer Warning: The Hytale team explicitly cautioned players on social media and in the official patch notes to enter Hard Mode at their own risk - ensure your party is fully stocked with top-tier potions and fully upgraded Runestones before pressing the button!

Minigames!

Need a break from fighting goblins? Minigames are now accessible directly from the Main Menu, featuring solo and group party matchmaking across two launch modes:

Prop Hunt

Set in a crowded tavern, players are split into two teams:

  • Props: Disguise yourself as everyday tavern objects (beds, tankards, barrels) and blend into the environment. Periodically taunting hunters builds charge for an emergency Smoke Bomb dash escape.
  • Hunters: Track down hidden Props and eliminate them. Any caught Prop instantly converts to the Hunter team until the tavern is cleared.

Shuffle Jam (12 Microgames)

A party-style playlist where players compete for stars across a fast-paced rotation of microgames:

  1. Color Party: Step onto the dance floor and reach the correct color block before time expires.
  2. Diving: Leap off a high platform as a frog to claim blocks in the pond below.
  3. High Ground: Knock rivals out of the central scoring circle while staying inside yourself.
  4. Lavablocks: Break rising terrain blocks strategically to stay above the rising lava level.
  5. Lazers: Fire deadly laser beams at opponents to secure the highest elimination count.
  6. Memory Floor: Memorize floor patterns and sprint to the correct designated shape.
  7. Plot Painter: Paint adjacent blocks to claim the largest total share of the board.
  8. Racing: Shoot target blocks to boost your character forward along the track.
  9. Stash & Seek: Hide your own relics across the map while hunting down everyone else's.
  10. Tile Flip: Sprint across tiles to flip their ownership and grab competitive power-ups.
  11. TNT Run: Parkour across a falling grid of blocks as the floor disintegrates into the void.
  12. TNT Tag: Pass a ticking explosive to other players before the timer runs out.

What's Next for Minigames

Hypixel Studios plans to expand this arcade experience beyond Prop Hunt and Shuffle Jam by releasing a community creator framework alongside a dedicated Minigames tab in the Mod Browser, allowing players to build, share, and host custom microgames locally or with friends.
