Is there any creature as mighty and awesome as a dragon? We think not. And the Minecraft community agrees! That’s why dragon-based addons are such a popular choice for when you want to give your Minecraft Bedrock game some extra content.
These packs, in particular, really nail down why dragons are so cool and how they can be applied to Minecraft in fun and interesting ways. Fight in high-intensity combat against fire breathing beasts, tame them and take to the skies, or raise them from eggs and bond with them from the baby stage onward. If you love dragons, or even just love having cool mobs to encounter, you simply have to try these packs out for yourself.
1. Mythological Craft
These fierce, powerful beasts of legend are older than recorded history itself. It only makes sense, then, that they’d be featured in the “Mythological Craft” addon.
This addon pays homage to all of the greatest monsters throughout different mythologies, allowing you to raid their lairs for loot, fight against them in large-scale battles, and even craft rare equipment from their materials.
Dragons are only the tip of the historical iceberg, too. You can encounter cyclops, minotaurs, medusas, and more! Each custom structure and mob presents new challenges to overcome, making this a great addon for someone who loves combining combat with history.
2. Dragon Mounts 2
Instead of drawing from the greater culture of dragons, the “Dragon Mounts 2” addon builds on Minecraft’s existing dragon. The End Dragon egg is now hatchable, allowing you to tame, raise, and eventually ride your very own dragon mount.
There is not just one dragon, either. In total, there are 16 dragon variations to choose from, each following an elemental or biome theme, with powers and scale patterns to match.
A sequel to an addon of the same name, “Dragon Mounts 2” puts a greater focus on making it a progressive, RPG-style experience easily enjoyed as a solo experience. You’ll bond more with your dragon over time, with various items, like shields, bows, and revival gems, rewarding you for raising your dragons well.
If you’d prefer the experience on Java Edition, there is a Java mod of Dragon Mounts 2, too. Go check it out!
3. Fire and Steel: Dragons
Inspired by the world of the hit book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, the “Fire and Steel: Dragons” addon introduces the draconic part of that world into Minecraft. Find what you need to incubate dragon eggs, raise the hatchlings as your own, and tame them into large, powerful beasts of battle.
If dragons aren’t enough, there are other ASOIAF beasts to be found, as well, like mammoths and direwolves. You can even encounter Valyrian traders selling rare items and weapons. But the real potential of this pack is found in the dragons.
With 28 different types of dragons to uncover (each with their own variants, no less!), there’s enough to fill out an entire singleplayer game or for everyone on a multiplayer server to have their own unique dragons. There’s nothing better to fuel tensions in an online server’s political conflict than everyone having a dragon.
4. Dragon Mounts
The predecessor of the previously mentioned addon, “Dragon Mounts” is a relatively straightforward pack that provides new end-game content for experienced players. Once you defeat the End Dragon, you can use the resulting dragon egg to incubate and hatch one of eight different dragon variations.
Once hatched, you get to raise it up from a small baby to a massive flying monster under your control. As the name implies, you can even attach a saddle and ride it as a mount!
Each dragon variation has unique abilities, like instantly growing crops or creating a blanket of snow. The addon’s design won’t interfere much with other packs either, making it a great choice as part of a larger themed addon collection.
5. Frost & Flames
A hidden gem, in a sense, the “Frost & Flames” addon hides a surprisingly wide array of draconic content behind an almost empty CurseForge page.
Here, you can raise your own dragon, each with a different elemental power. You can also craft custom dragon feed to tend to them so they grow larger, or use their scales and forge special elemental irons to create a variety of unique dragon armors and weapons.
Without any guidance, it can be tough trying to figure out how to make the most of this addon. But once you get the hang of things, you’ll end up with possibly the largest dragon mob we’ve ever seen.
The dragons in most addons are usually about the same size as the End Dragon. But in “Frost & Flames,” our fully fed black dragon had to have grown four times the size! All in all, we feel this addon really nails down how awe-inspiring a dragon should be.
6. Age of Dragons
There’s an element of danger to the “Age of Dragons” addon. To start, you need to sneak into the nests of established dragons, braving their ire to steal their eggs. Each egg, depending on that dragon’s element, requires special conditions to hatch.
Each dragon has special abilities as well, changing combat styles between them. The addon also includes a handful of engaging and interesting features, like dragon armors, and the ability to store your dragons inside a horn.
But that’s all assuming you survive your first encounter with a wild dragon. These massive beasts are sure to be a challenge to even a seasoned player, especially if you plan to collect them all, so make sure to arrive prepared.
7. The Last Dragon
Most dragon addons strive for variety, adding multiple kinds of dragons with different powers or designs. In “The Last Dragon,” it takes the opposite direction. There is one fierce, powerful beast, waiting for you to tame it. At least, that’s how the addon presents itself.
In reality, “The Last Dragon” is a pretty standard dragon addon experience. Wild dragons, and their eggs, can spawn throughout the world. Wild dragons can be tamed with cooked meat, while an egg can be incubated using a flint and steel.
Regardless of which method you use, the end result is a tamed dragon you can fly around on to your hearts content. If you’re looking for a no frills dragon pack well suited for singleplayer and multiplayer alike, this is a safe and satisfying choice.
8. Alylica's Dragons
Want something slightly more engaging from the traditional dragon addon experience? If so, this addon delivers.
Find dragon eggs and incubate them until they hatch. Shear scales off of your dragon to craft rare armor, and raid a new structure type: Dragon Bastions. These dungeons contain unique hostile mobs, special loot, and a big secret at the bottom.
But perhaps one of the things that makes “Alylica’s Dragons” stand out is the transformative nature of the dragon eggs. Each egg has an “acclimation” phase, where the environment the egg is in will change what kind of dragon it will hatch into. All of this combines to create a dragon you’ll really bond and make memories with.
9. Dragons of Berk
“How to Train Your Dragon” is a fantastic film series, telling a story of growth and kinship with unlikely allies. It’s only reasonable that the Minecraft community would want to bring some of that magic into their game. The “Dragons of Berk” addon brings all of the dragons from the film into Minecraft Bedrock, allowing you to tame and train them accordingly.
Inspired by the popular “Age of Berk” modpack for Java Edition, each dragon’s likeness is beautifully recreated into Minecraft’s blocky art style, with unique animations to match their personalities. Fans of the movie will love being able to recognize, engage, and bond with each dragon. You can fight them, too, though we can’t help but feel like that goes against the theme of the film.
10. The Dragon Master's Mod - DragonReign
It goes without saying that every addon for Minecraft is a product of unconditional love. But every so often, we find an addon where you can really tell that the creator is passionate about what they’re making.
The “DragonReign” addon is a beautiful example of how much the creator VijayDragonMaster loves dragons. It features three dragons, each very unique from each other. Raise them from an egg, feed them the right item to tame them, and craft special armor based on each.
Being a solo project, there isn’t a ton of depth and development is slow. But we greatly enjoyed what was already there and we love what Vijay is doing, so “DragonReign” is well-deserving of the spotlight and worth trying out for yourself.
How to Install Minecraft Addons
You can add Bedrock addons automatically from the official Minecraft Marketplace or download and install them manually from CurseForge’s Bedrock addons browser.
If you pick the second option, make sure to open the linked project page of each of the addons above and download its associated “.mcaddon” file. Running the downloaded file should then launch Minecraft and begin the import.
After the import finishes, don’t forget to edit the world and check both "Behavior Packs" → "Available" and "Resource Packs" → "Available". If all went well, activating the packs included with the addon should add its features to that world. If the project lists an experiment under "Requirements", you should enable it as well before loading the world.

Common Issues and Quick Fixes
I installed and activated the addon, but it’s still not appearing
Sometimes, you may need to install two files – one for the resource pack and one for the behavior pack. We therefore recommend checking if you have both installed and active. If not, make sure to visit the addon’s official download page for the missing file and download it.
I can’t tame or mount this dragon
It can be hard to keep track of what items you need, especially when multiple dragon addons are installed, as the methods for hatching, taming, and mounting a dragon will vary between each addon. Some use raw fish, for example, while others may use cooked chicken. If in doubt, make sure to double check which addon that particular dragon is from, then consult that addon’s description page for more information on how to interact with them.
My dragon egg won’t hatch
It’s easy to assume that placing an egg down and waiting is all you need to do, but many dragon addons for Minecraft Bedrock require extra steps to ensure incubation. This includes things like surrounding it in fire, placing it on a special nest, or even just activating it and waiting.
We recommend double checking which addon the dragon eggs are from, then consult that addon’s description page for more information on how to hatch eggs.
