Categories

There are three main categories that you can submit entries for, these are:

World Gen v2

Create generated worlds using World Gen v2's visual node editor. Build a biome, region, or zone with a clear theme, strong landmarks, and great exploration from the ground. Category guidelines are as follows:

  • Theme is up to you - Hytale-friendly or something entirely new. Keep it cohesive.
  • Submit a single biome, a connected region, or a full zone.
  • Keep it playable - fun traversal, navigable underground (if any).
  • Make it shine up close - details matter.
  • Use provided assets or create your own blocks and NPCs. Prefabs encouraged.
  • Optimize performance so chunks load reasonably fast.
  • Include a short gameplay video (exploration or cinematic).

NPCs

Bring life to Hytale. Create or update NPCs - critters, enemies, or boss fights - with behaviors players will remember. Push the asset configuration system to its limits. Category guidelines are as follows:

  • Use the asset-driven NPC system first. Use Java only to extend what data can't do.
  • For boss fights and complex combat, use the Combat Action Evaluator.
  • Stick to walking and flying motion controllers for the best reliability. Swimming transitions are not fully supported yet.
  • Adjacent systems (taming, factions, communication) should use messages and beacons.
  • Prioritize clarity and feel - readable tells, fair hitboxes, clean pacing, minimal jank.
  • Include a short showcase video (behaviors and/or combat).

Experiences

Create a new way to play Hytale - adventure maps, minigames, hard modes, or deep systems (skill trees, progression, crafting reworks). PvP and multiplayer welcome. Category guidelines are as follows:

  • Make it immediately playable - clear goals and basic onboarding.
  • Polish matters - UI, sound, and visual feedback.
  • Custom content integration is a plus - NPCs, worldgen, and gameplay pulled together will stand out.
  • Show it in a short gameplay video (with other players if multiplayer).
  • Include simple instructions so anyone can jump in fast.

Prizes

As mentioned, there are $100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in the contest, and can be won in three different ways:

    • 3rd Place - $2,500
