Hytale's Saved!

For those who haven't heard.. Hytale has been saved!

After Hytale was cancelled earlier this year, the community had largely accepted that the long-awaited game might never see the light of day. However, in a surprising (and exciting!) turn of events, the original team has taken back the project and is resuming development on their initial vision for Hytale!

What is Hytale?

Hytale is a sandbox adventure game that gives players the freedom to explore, build, and battle their way through a dynamic, procedurally generated world. It combines elements of exploration, combat, creativity, and RPG-style progression, offering something for every type of player:

  • A procedurally generated world (Orbis) full of unique biomes and creatures
  • Dungeons, bosses, and RPG systems that encourage progression and exploration
  • A rich building experience with a large variety of blocks and props to let your creativity run wild
  • Strong focus on modding and creation, with built-in tools to help bring your ideas to life

What do we know about Hytale so far?

The Hytale team has confirmed that they're returning the project to its original engine and, importantly, are aiming to release an Early Access version as soon as possible, inviting the community to experience the game and help shape its development.

They've even shared a 16-minute gameplay video, showcasing just a glimpse of what will be possible in Hytale:

Modding in Hytale

From the very beginning, modding and creator content have been a huge part of Hytale's vision, and with the focus on building the game alongside the community, it's more important than ever.

Hytale will include accessible modding tools created by their team to help players bring their ideas and creations to life within the game. From their own blog, they note:

  • It's possible to mod almost everything in Hytale (content and server-side)
  • Non-developers can create impressive experiences with minimal technical knowledge
  • A few guides or videos will be enough for most people to start creating
  • They will provide server source code access within several months, once they're legally ready to do so
  • Dedicated server support and data-driven content configuration
  • They are being mindful of backward compatibility as we iterate
  • You can create your own custom servers, maps, adventures, etc.

In the coming weeks, they'll share more details about how modding will work and answer questions from the Hytale community.

We're super excited for Hytale and can’t wait to see the amazing mods and creations that the community will bring to life!
