What does the Iris Shaders mod do?
Iris Shaders is a modern, open-source shaders mod for Minecraft designed for maximum performance and compatibility. It allows you to use your favorite Optifine-format shader packs (like BSL Shaders or Complementary Shaders) while providing significantly higher frame rates and better compatibility with other mods than using the regular methods.
Does the Iris Shaders mod need Forge?
Iris does not support Forge on any version, however it supports Fabric and Quilt down to 1.16 as well as NeoForge for 1.21.1 and above. If you are using Forge on versions 1.20.1 and below, then the unofficial Oculus port is available and works on Forge versions 1.16.5 to 1.20.1.
What is Sodium in Minecraft?
Sodium is an optimization mod that completely changes how Minecraft’s rendering engine behaves to improve performance. It is a mandatory dependency for Iris Shaders, which is why the two mods are almost always installed together. The mod has unofficial Forge ports, the most up to date of which is Embeddium, required by Oculus (note that you may need to manually delete Rubidium – an out of date port that can get automatically installed by Oculus and will conflict with Embeddium).
How to install and enable Iris Shaders in Minecraft?
You can install the Iris Shaders mod via the CurseForge app or download it here. Once the game is running, you can open the Shaderpack selection menu by pressing “O”, then install shaders using the CurseForge app, drag and drop them into the game, or add them manually to the Shaderpacks folder and enable them or adjust their settings from the menu.
How to keep Iris Shaders alongside other mods?
Iris Shaders is designed to be highly compatible with Sodium-friendly mods. To ensure a stable experience:
- Use the CurseForge app to automatically create a Fabric or NeoForge profile or download a pre-made performance modpack.
- Ensure that if you are on Fabric and a version before 1.21.1, Indium is installed as this provides essential APIs required by quite a few mods that Sodium does not provide itself (until 1.21.1 and later).
