Featured Content on CurseForge

At CurseForge, we’re always looking for ways to help players discover amazing new content while supporting the talented authors who bring these projects to life.

In this article, we’ll review the ways we feature content, and how we select projects to feature. We’ll also discuss some of the recent changes we’ve made to help improve discoverability on CurseForge.

We feature content across multiple places and platforms, both on the CurseForge website, app, and even in-game! Here are some of the places you can find featured content:

  • CurseForge App (Discover and Browse tabs)
  • CurseForge Website (Discover and Collections)
  • Social Media (Shoutouts  and Creator of the Month)
  • In-game (Ark and Hogwarts Legacy)

We’re always looking for new ways to help highlight awesome new projects, so stay tuned for further updates!

Discover Tab

To improve content discovery, we recently introduced a new “Discover” tab to the CurseForge app and website, including a brand new carousel to highlight projects and articles.

In addition to this, we’ve also partnered up with some incredible influencers to help share your incredible projects outside of the CurseForge platform. These mods are handpicked by the content creators and shared in a YouTube video as well as the new carousel!

Browse Tab and New Tags

The “Browse” tab in the CurseForge app contains featured projects that we promote on a regular basis. We use these to highlight projects that are either small and of high-quality, long standing must-have, or sponsored:

💎 Hidden Gems

  • Smaller, or new projects that we feel deserve more attention and spotlight

🔥 Popular

  • For bigger, existing projects that are in-trend or have recently received a major update

Sponsored

  • Following requests we’ve received from the author community, we now allow for sponsored projects to be listed on CurseForge
  • All sponsored projects must follow our moderation guidelines, and be something that we believe is an interesting project for our community
  • It is important to us to maintain balance between sponsored and other featured content, and we work to make sure sponsored content does not overshadow our important hidden gems and popular projects
  • This is still a running pilot and we value your feedback on this

To help improve clarity about featured projects in the app, we’ve added 3 new tags that clarify the reason for each featured project.

How do we select content?

We’re always on the hunt for exciting, high-quality content that we can share with our community, both from new creators and experienced authors on the platform.

We do this in many ways, such as checking social media and posts on our Discord servers, using data to see trending content, and our moderation team keeping an eye on any interesting new projects or exciting new updates.

From these picks, we then select some of this content to share with the CurseForge community!

The most important thing is to make sure your project is as good as it can be, and that you’re actively maintaining and updating it. We use a number of ways to judge whether we should feature a project, including:

  • Make sure a project has a well-designed project page that helps introduce new gamers to your project (check our article on how to do that here)
  • Unique ideas or cool concepts
  • Projects that are of good quality, have clear effort put into them
  • Projects that are bug-free and actively maintained
  • Trends or things we see requested a lot from the CurseForge community

Future Plans for Discoverability

We have big plans to improve content discoverability on CurseForge even further! We’ve already made significant strides, but we want to hear from you – share your thoughts and suggestions on the Ideas Portal!
